The Sarin Sector

The Sarin Sector

Capsule: The Sarin Sector lies on the farthest edge of explored space. It was colonized almost one hundred standard years ago by Duros explorers and Ithorian terraformers. It is now a self-sufficient but not terribly important sector, with principal exports being starship components and foodstuffs. Neighboring sectors receive broadcasts from the Sarin Sektor NewsLine, travel to vacation on Qaeto, and have been visited by the Slag Syndicate.

People

The Slag Syndicate
The Slag Syndicate was formed when a large group of Raychroth Corporation security troops incorporated to form a mercenary unit. They are kept on retainer by (and thus funded and equipped by) the Raychroth Corporation to handle major disturbances. Their reputation for indiscriminate destruction has grown to the point that the arrival of the Meltdown alone is enough to break up even the most heated riots. The Syndicate supplements their income with bounty hunting. Few local criminals yield significant bounties, but a few high-profile targets come to the Rim in an attempt to flee Imperial justice. The Slag Syndicate operates in the Sarin and surrounding sectors. They are led by Linn Akto, a female Duro with a foul disposition. Above all else she despises Gerrick Angel, once one of the best members of her crew who left the Syndicate for the Nysar Apocalypse Cult after a near-death experience.

Gerrick Angel
Gerrick Angel is the most peculiar bounty hunter most people have ever heard of. He isn't interested in the money, though with what he can get he makes significant donations to the Brotherhood of the Coming Twilight. He is out to redeem every small time crook and pick pocket he can get his hands on from a life of sin and eternal punishment. The skills he acquired with the Slag Syndicate and his bounty hunter's license merely give him an excuse to get a captive audience. It is rumored that he won't turn a bounty in until the mark confesses all his sins, criminal or not, and swears to serve the Brotherhood for the rest of his life. Perhaps not surprisingly, captives he turns in are usually very willing to pay their debt to society as long as it keeps them away from Angel's pulpit on the Green Lance. Angel is the only major competitor with the Slag Syndicate, and tends to be more successful within the Sarin Sector because he is willing to take smaller bounties rather than expand into other areas. Imperial law regards him as a dangerous lunatic, but no more dangerous than any other bounty hunter. Criminals look on him with derision, but he has quite a bit of popular appeal and a reputation as a plain dealer; a nice change from the usual scum and villainy - until he starts preaching.

Nibo the Hutt
Nibo the Hutt is the biggest trader in the Sarin Sector, both physically and economically. He deals primarily in luxury goods, recreational drugs, and art objects. After the destruction of his base of operations on Nysar, his personal ship, a modified Action VI transport named the Caravan, was refitted to operate as a portable marketplace and court. A few words at any spacer's bar will disclose his current whereabouts, but he usually stays on Qaeto, Sarius IV, and Phierras. He is quite paranoid and never travels without his armed personal guards and Y-wing escort. Nibo's guards are easily recognized by their sharp, black and tan uniforms, clean-cut appearance, and deadly accuracy with light blaster pistols.

Captain Wenrin Gray
Captain Wenrin Gray of the Customs Patrol was a rising star in the Imperial Navy. He comes from a long family line of impressive military leaders, and served the Empire with honor and loyalty. There were a few issues where he could not reconcile the realities of the Empire with his ideals, but he convinced himself that it was all for the greater good. He was a close friend of Andar Momeni, an Ithorian professor of philosophy and history at the University of Cisrak. Whenever he was in the system, Gray would make a stop to discuss the state of the Empire with Momeni. Momeni was charged with sedition and Gray was the first to respond. He discovered that Momeni and a group of students were circulating a banned news rag peacefully protesting the Empire's anti-alien bias. Knowing that other ships were en route, Gray helped Momeni and his students escape on the Defender and stayed behind to take the fall himself.

Captain Jerl Dodonna
The person most delighted to find Captain Gray a traitor was Jerl Dodonna, captain of the Protector, a ruthless and ambitious Customs Inspector and longtime rival of Gray. With Gray implicated as an obvious Rebel sympathizer, nothing now stands in the way of Dodonna's promotion to Sector Commander. He tolerates Duros, but hates all other aliens with an unusual ferocity.

Andar Momeni and the Cisrak Survivors
After their escape from Cisrak, Momeni and his students turned the Defender toward uncharted space. Not well trained in starship navigation and piloting, they crash-landed on the uncharted planet they named Tialis. They managed to eke out a meager living in the equatorial tundra, and are now preparing for war.

Capsule: There's something about the sea that makes sentient beings want to take it slow. The people of the ocean moon voluntarily go without droids, speeders, blasters, and other high technology items common in the Galaxy. Naturally, swimming, diving, and boating are the most popular pastimes. There are three large cities, each rooted on chains of islands but extending out over the sea on complex pontoon constructions. The largest is home to the sector's finest university, best known for its natural sciences, business management, education, medicine, and humanities programs (though the latter's music and philosophy departments have been closed for subversive activities), though the engineering program is somewhat lacking. As with most campuses, there is a large number of clubs, concerts, sports teams, and gathering places, where the literati go to savor exotic coffees, teas, and infusions. The second-largest city is home to the royal family and a healthy fishing and crafts industry. Cisrak fish leathers and seaweed rope hammocks are the principle exports.

After the Womp Rat Crew's spectacular escape (which resulted in many injuries, but, miraculously, no deaths), COMPNOR observers were allowed to take control of the university administration and a stormtrooper garrison was placed on the planet to prevent further problems.

Dehona
Type: Terrestrial
Temperature: Temperate
Atmosphere: Type I (breathable)

Capsule: Dehona is the poorest inhabited planet in the sector. A number of small farming communities dot the surface of the planet. Typically, each 'town' is made up of a single extended family and once a year the entire population of the planet gathers at Dehona City to trade with offworlders and exchange young people in marriage. The Empire maintains the only landing field on the planet, which is little more than a comm beacon next to a flat patch of dry ground. The lone Imperial representative acts as customs agent, port authority, sheriff and judge, though he does get some backup during the annual trade festival. He only taxes imports and exports - if he bothered to tax the locals he'd have to accept bushels of produce and bundles of lumber.

Keved
Type: Terrestrial
Temperature: Terrestrial
Atmosphere: Type I (breathable)
Hydrosphere: Moderate

Major Exports: Foodstuffs
Major Imports: Technology, manufactured goods, luxury items
Capsule: The breadbasket of the Sarin Sector is ruled with the iron fist of General Daala, a ruthless dictator who licks the boots of the Empire's military leaders in order to stay in power. The bulk of the planet's food exports supply the Raychroth Corporation. Refugees from the disaster of Nysar have been promoting their Apocalypse Cult, which has flourished in spite of crackdowns by the planetary defense forces. General Daala understands that if the Brotherhood is not contained, he could risk being replaced by a more effective Imperial governor.

Nysar
Type: Terrestrial
Temperature: Hot
Atmosphere: Type IV (environment suit required)

Capsule: Until very recently an important agriculture and trade world, Nysar has suffered a horrendous and unexplained catastrophe. Fire rained from the sky, the oceans boiled, earthquakes and volcanoes shattered the landscape. Many of the refugees were evacuated to Keved, where they formed the Brotherhood of the Coming Twilight (commonly known as the Nysar Apocalypse Cult), preaching that the pestilence visited on their world and the wars in the Galaxy are divine retribution for general wickedness and atheism.
Note: Characters on the planet's surface with no protection must make a Very Difficult stamina check every hour or take 4D radiation damage. Characters with breathmasks must make Moderate stamina checks every hour, and only take 3D damage on failure.

Major Imports: Food, starship components, luxury items
Capsule: "Gateway to the Sarin Sector" is often the only planet people from outside the sector need to visit to pick up cargoes for transport on the well-traveled starlanes. The planet itself is geologically dead and self-sufficient in its agricultural production. 80% of the planet's population is centered around the three primary spaceports, where most of the residents find employ renting warehouses, loading cargoes, and repairing ships.

Qaeto

Starport: Stellar class
Population: 80,000 permanent residents
Planet Function: Entertainment
Government: Organized Crime
Tech Level: Space
Major Exports: None
Major Imports: Luxury goods
Capsule: This moon was a desolate wasteland until Ithorian colonists terraformed it into a paradise. It is now home to resorts, beauty spas, hotels, and theme parks. Big game hunting, swoop racing, stun boxing, diving, and gambling are only a few of the pleasures to be had. There is, of course, quite a bit of shady dealing that goes on behind the scenes. The planet is officially governed by a Travel and Tourism Board, made up of representatives from every major hotel and resort, but everyone knows the Board underreports taxable profits and allowed recreational drugs to be imported without undue harassment.

Raychroth
Type: Terrestrial
Temperature: Temperate
Atmosphere: Type I (breathable)
Hydrosphere: Moderate
Gravity: Standard
Terrain: Mountain, urban
Length of Day: 25 standard hours
Length of Year: 325 local days
Sapient Species: Duros
Starport: Stellar class
Population: 200 million
Planet Function: Manufacturing/Processing, Colony
Government: Corporate Owned
Tech Level: Space
Major Exports: Starships, starship components
Major Imports: Food, minerals
Capsule: Raychroth was colonized by Duros not quite a hundred years ago. The colonists formed the Raychroth Corporation, which is now the region's leading supplier of starship control systems and no mean producer of whole starships. The Corporation maintains strict policies to keep the Arcona labor unions in line and avoid Imperial "nationalization." It is a mark of pride to the management that an almost entirely Duro company has flourished amidst the Empire's anti-alien legislation. The planet has a harsh climate and rugged terrain; some offices and refineries are located on the surface, but the bulk of the construction goes on in the hundreds of huge orbital dry-docks.
